Nominated to the Supreme Court on 10 May 2010 by President Barack Obama, Elena Kagan became the fourth woman to serve on the court since it first assembled on 1 February 1790. (As of August 2010, there have been 112 justices.)
Kagan was sworn into office on 7 August 2010.
